Donlin Gold has been developing a gold-mining project in the Yukon-Kuskokwim (Y-K) region for over 20 years, and we’ve worked hard to keep the community involved. Part of our effort has always been for Donlin Gold senior management and other representatives to visit Y-K region communities to meet with residents, communicate developments and information in person, and to answer questions.
What can you expect at a Donlin Gold village visit?
When Donlin Gold visits a Y-K region village, we provide general information on the project, recent updates, expectation for future developments and events, and we always provide opportunities for questions and answers.
Donlin Gold values input from the community, because it helps us shape the direction of the project. We have been listening to the people of the region since exploration began over 21 years ago and we have continued to put their thoughts and concerns into action. For example, after hearing our initial project proposal, many people in the region encouraged us to seek alternative methods for powering the project. This resulted in Donlin Gold studying the feasibility of a natural-gas pipeline as the primary source of power for the project. As the project moves through the permitting phase, we look forward to hearing more from the people of the Y-K region to help us better develop a mine that serves as a model for responsible mine development.
