 LETTER FROM DAN GRAHAM
Dear Members of the Donlin Gold Community,
This new year brings the opportunity to celebrate some of our major successes of 2020 and to say thank you to the community.
In 2020, we met and exceeded all of our drill program goals. This is no small task in an ordinary year, let alone in a
year with a General Manager and camp leadership transition and an unforeseen global pandemic. Our progress is a testament to Donlin’s amazing workforce in and out of the Y-K region, community partners and corporate leadership. Together, we worked to make Donlin Gold one of the few successful project sites in Alaska to continue meaningful work in this difficult time.
We opened camp with a mission to complete ambitious drilling goals and make significant camp improvements. We met all of our stated goals on time and on budget, despite a 7-week closure due to COVID-19. These achievements speak to our workforce’s ability to adjust on the fly and nimbly adapt our protocols to meet new challenges. Both on shift and off, we operated safely and maintained a high quality of work, consistent with our embedded values.
As we ramped up for the 2020 season, our stellar HR Manager, Meg Smith, and her new HR assistant, Selina Phillips, were able to hire and retain employees from 17 Y-K villages as part of our rotational workforce. Our community relations team worked closely with each community and tribal council in the region to ensure all local protocols were followed, which allowed the community to be comfortable with our plans and we could continue to support the community needs in the region.
Since the closing of camp, the Y-K region has been hit especially hard with COVID-19. Donlin worked closely with numerous entities in the region to help provide the support and supplies needed to weather out the pandemic at its onset. We remain steadfast in our commitment to continue these efforts for as long as the pandemic persists. If your community has specific needs at this time, please let our community relations team know.
Needless to say, 2020 presented some unusual and unforeseen challenges, but I am happy to report that we accomplished much this year and our momentum remains strong. Thank you for your contributions and support. We look forward to a safe and productive 2021.
