Donlin Gold, in a collaborative effort with the Lower Kuskokwim School District’s Career and Technical Education and Student Activities Departments, hosted the 2019 Lower Kuskokwim School District (LKSD) College & Career Fair in November at the Bethel Regional High School (BRHS).
What began as a ‘stay in school and goal-setting’ session with the participants of a BRHS-hosted basketball tournament 10 years ago has evolved into a College and Career Fair for students from more than 15 of the district’s school sites. The fair was planned to coincide with the annual LKSD ‘Mix-Six’ Volleyball Tournament. Not only do students in Bethel get to participate in a fun and exciting sports event, they also plan for their future by going to college, technical school or directly into the workforce.
Colin Stewart, of the LKSD Career and Technical Education department, and the district’s itinerant counselors made sure the students came well prepared to ask questions about life after high school, financial aid and more. “It was great to see our students interacting in a professional manner with all the vendors and asking direct questions,” Stewart said. “A big thanks to
the LKSD Counseling Team who helped organize and prepare the students for this event!” Student
career fair participants are eligible for a number of scholarships. Interested students should contact Mr. Colin Stewart or their itinerant counselor for details.
The 2019 LKSD College & Career Fair featured over
30 higher education and employment recruiters and financial aid experts from the community and region. Plans for a future career fair remain tentative due to COVID-19. Donlin Gold appreciates working with the LKSD on the development of the College and Career Fair over the past 10 years and looks forward to a continuing partnership to prepare students for life after their high school graduation.
